At a time when school districts across the country are cutting music and arts programs, the Camdenton R-III Board of Education accepted an award Monday night for its efforts to maintain ? and grow ? music education.
The district was named one of the "Best Communities for Music Education in America," a title handed out by the National Association of Music Merchants (or NAMM) Foundation.
Eric Matzat, of Palen Music, presented the Board of Education with the award on behalf of the NAMM Foundation.
The Camdenton R-III School District and surrounding community have an "outstanding reputation for music appreciation," Matzat said.
The district was graded on numerous points including music funding, graduation requirements, music class participation, instruction time, facilities, community support and other factors.
Matzat noted how the students in Camdenton's Pride of the Lake Marching Band carried themselves on stage during performances, as well as off stage.
"They are respectful and courteous to other bandmates and competitors," Matzat said.
The annual survey of music programs across the country is supported by the NAMM Foundation, Palen Music, Americans for the Arts, League of American Orchestras, The Mr. Holland's Opus Foundation, Music for All, Music Teachers National Association, National Guild for Community Arts Education, Yamaha Corporation of America, Young Audiences and VH1 Save The Music Foundation.
