Selfridges Launches The Big Rooftop Tea And Golf Party

London (PRWEB UK) 23 June 2012

A 9-hole very crazy golf with Bompas and Parr and the highest tea on Oxford Street by Daylesford Caf?, all on Selfridges? legendary roof.

Selfridges reopens its legendary roof to launch its Big Rooftop Tea and Golf Party, as part of the Big British Bang, the store?s all-encompassing creative homage to the Queen?s Diamond Jubilee and the Olympics, staged during the most important cultural and sporting year in Great Britain?s history for decades.

From 31 May ? 2 September, Selfridges? Big British Tea & Golf Party will transform the store?s roof into a Willy Wonka?s Chocolate Factory meets Alice in Wonderland hybrid with the launch of a crazy golf like no other and an award-winning organic caf? for the best, most fun and the highest British afternoon tea on Oxford Street.

Crazy Golf With Bompas & Parr On Selfridges? Roof

The nearly 200 giant tree-lined, 9-hole, 2,530sqft crazy golf course is designed by British jellymongers and food architects extraordinaire - Sam Bompas and Harry Parr of Bompas & Parr. Revisiting the idea of the original Selfridges? mini golf set up on the store?s roof back in the 1930?s, the duo are giving the full afternoon tea treatment to their crazy golf, making it the perfect companion to the Daylesford Caf? built next to it.

The course has been designed to look like a giant display of cakes, one for each hole, and each of them represent a famous London landmark. Participants will be challenged to conquer Buckingham Palace (hole#7), St. Paul?s Cathedral (hole #4) and Tower Bridge (hole #6), all clad in fondant and piped icing and to cross cake-stand bunkers and sugary waterfalls, while successful shots will be rewarded with visual treats. To add to the experience, Bompas and Parr are also ensuring the vision of cakes is accompanied by a suitable and very British scent: that of Bakewell tart via a clever micro-technology system. And just for good, eccentric and absurd British measure, a single red telephone box punctuates the gargantuan landscape. If crazy golf is played elsewhere in the world, it just won?t be as much fun!

The Highest Tea On Oxford Street By Daylesford Caf?

The other outstanding experience to be had on Selfridges? roof this summer is a celebration of British afternoon tea, with a twist. In fact, it will be the highest afternoon tea served on Oxford Street and designed to be not only the best, but also the most fun.

Whether basking in the sun or shaded by the retractable awning, [Daylesford Caf? will be open daily, from 12 noon with a bespoke menu to fit this unique experience, catering for all appetites from lunch to dinner. Daylesford Caf? will serve delicious, organic food within an outdoor playful picnic setting ? with all produce sourced from their farm. Everything on the menu is glorious, from a proper British afternoon tea and award-winning cheeseboard, to a surprising gin jelly ? a special collaboration with Bompas & Parr. On balmy summer evenings, the roof top at Selfridges will be the place to unwind and relax, watch the sun set over London whilst sipping a cold glass of Pimm?s.

Jamie Mitchell, Daylesford CEO commented ?We are very excited to see two quintessentially British brands, Daylesford and Selfridges, join forces to create the ?highest tea served on Oxford Street?.

Celebrating this great British tradition, our chefs will be using award-winning produce from our farm, to create a unique Daylesford twist on afternoon tea, throughout the summer.?

Harry Parr of Bompas & Parr stated ?Novelty golf and exciting food are long time bed-fellows. El Bulli, once ?the world?s best restaurant?, started life with a miniature golf course. In recent years the connection has been lost. We plan to readdress this with the seven wonders of London realised as cake-inspired golf obstacles.?

With the launch of crazy golf with Bompas & Parr and the Daylesford Caf? on the Selfridges Rooftop, Londoners and visitors to the capital this summer will only be 6 floors away from an oasis of peace, fun and heavenly food available in the UK.
